About Olds, Didsbury and Sundre
Olds (pop. 9,184), Didsbury (pop. 5,268.) and Sundre (pop. 2,729) are clean, safe rural communities. Olds and Didsbury are just off the major North-South QE2 Highway, and Sundre is 20 miles west. Most roads are paved, and all are well maintained, year round. All 3 communities offer a quality lifestyle, combining the best of small town living with big city amenities that are close by.
Recreation includes arenas with both hockey and curling ice; an Aquatic Centre; baseball diamonds, a skateboard park and both walking and bicycle tracks. It also boasts good good camping, hiking and fishing. At least 7 golf courses are within 1/2 hour of Olds.
Health and education facilities are good, making the area highly attractive to both seniors and young families.
The Olds, Didsbury, and Sundre areas boast wonderful scenic parkland and all three communities are within Mountain View County, which has strong agricultural roots. We have a large petroleum and forestry industry, and many other smaller, thriving business operations. The most recent large industry to come to the region, is in the area of Cannabis Production, bringing with it several hundred new jobs.
We are also proud to support local initiatives such as O-Net and Mountain View Power.
The areas biggest employer is a post-secondary institution which was established in 1913, as Olds Agricultural College. These days it is known as Olds College and offers a much wider range of courses, and has students attending from across Canada, and beyond.
Olds has also been the home of the Olds Grizzlys, (which is an Alberta Junior Hockey League Team) since 1981. In 1992 and 1993, the Olds Grizzlys were AJHL Champions. In 1994 the Olds Grizzlys were AJHL Champions, Doyle Cup Champions and then took the Centennial Cup on home ice, as national champions!
